Manono Island Resort (aka Vaotuua) off the west coast of Upolu are Samoa's best over-the-water fales with private verandah and staircase down to the lagoon. From your private veranda you look across the turquoise lagoon towards the mountains of east Upolu - one of the great sights of Samoa, especially at sunrise.
Each fale is finely crafted. The two beach fales are set on a tiny cove beach with hammock. The beach at Vaotuua is small but of fine sand and at high tide the water comes right up to the rocks and under the fales. The lagoon is great for swimming.
Your hosts provide excellent fresh food and ample fruits from their large tropical fruit garden. Manono is an idyllic island with 4 villages, no cars and no barking dogs. A coastal track circles the island passing through forest and villages and offers great views of the coastline. This is a very traditional place and on Sunday very little is permitted except for church.
Manono is a must place to visit and Vaotu'ua an excellent choice to meet the locals and learn about their traditional lives. Ferry service from Manon-uta Wharf on west Upolu - 20 minutes trip - ST$20 is charged for the boat per crossing regardless number of travellers.

Getting There:
The easiest way to get to Manono Island is to get a taxi direct from the International Airport to the Manono Wharf (costs about ST$15 - takes about 10 minutes). If pre-arranged, we will meet you at Manono Wharf to transfer you to our fales (takes about 15 minutes - costs ST$20 per person - note - do not get another ferry to Manono as they may well not drop you at our fales). The beauty of this is that you will be in your fale before the Airport Shuttle Bus reaches Apia Town!
The alternative is to catch the Airport Shuttle Bus into Apia Town for ST$15 per person (meets all international arrivals - 40-minutes in mini coach - driver will drop you at your requested hotel). Once in Apia, the best way to get to Manono is to take the Green Turtle Tour which stops at Manono Wharf every day and will pre-arrange your ferry transfer for you. Green Turtle are based in Apia and depart each day at 8am from the Travellers' Lounge, or organise for them to pick you up from your hotel. Simply purchase your travel pass which enables you to hop-on and hop-off the bus as many times as you like during your stay and take a scenic and educational tour en-route.
A taxi to Manono Wharf from Apia Town will cost about ST$50 (takes 45 minutes).
