Inside Fale

Treehouse
|
Mativa Treehouse is one of those special places that few find but all fall in love with. Offering just one fale built under a huge tropical tree right by the ocean, this place is ideal for romantic couples. There's no beach at Mativa, but the solitude more than makes up for this. The Treehouse is set ocean side from an infrequently used side road - the family house is set across the road in beautifully landscaped gardens with fruit trees. Open plan fale with raised queen size bed, a single bed and veranda overlooking the water and offshore island of Nuusafee Island. This island has excellent surfing and some very good snorkelling.

Getting There:
As most flights arrive in the early hours of the morning, the easiest way to get to Mativa is to spend your first night in Apia. Catch the Airport Shuttle Bus into Apia Town for ST$15 per person (meets all international arrivals - 40-minutes in mini coach - driver will drop you at requested hotel). Once in Apia, the best way to get to Mativa is to take the Green Turtle Tour which stops at Mativa every day. Green Turtle are based in Apia and depart each day at 8am from the Travellers' Lounge, or organise for them to pick you up from your hotel. Simply purchase your travel pass which enables you to hop-on and hop-off the bus as many times as you like during your stay and take a scenic and educational tour en-route.
A taxi direct to Mativa from the International Airport will cost about ST$150 (takes 2 hours) and from Apia Town about ST$100. Car rental is not available at the international airport as a Samoan driving license is required - these are only available from the licensing office opposite the Police Station in Apia.
There are no public buses to Mateva.
